What’s It About?
Kids choose from 13 activities in PEPPY PALS FARM - FUN EQ FOR KIDS, each helping them learn more about feelings and friendship. Four animal friends appear in the activities, and kids see how each character reacts differently to different toys -- enjoying some, being afraid of some, not caring for some. The animals help each other through challenges, such as crossing a bridge or sharing a treat. To control what's happening, kids tap the characters or objects until the next stage in the story happens. One activity features the animal's faces, and kids have to select the emotion the animal is feeling. There's also a free-paint activity and coloring pages.
Is It Any Good?
These adorable farm friends model compassion through wordless stories to help kids develop social-emotional skills and understand their own feelings better. There are no instructions, but prompts on-screen coax kids to tap certain places. Some activities have a definite end and then return to the home screen. Others continue endlessly, and kids will have to decide when they're finished or want to move on. Some kids may be a bit confused about what they can do or how much control they have over situations; ultimately, they can only tap until the narrative unfolds, which may not feel like enough to slightly older kids. In future updates it would add appeal and depth to have levels appropriate to different ages with varying levels of language and control. Also, being able to turn off the music would be nice. Though the messages are positive and can stand on their own, parents may find it helpful to play alongside kids to talk more about what the animals are feeling: There's a parent guide with possible questions to ask.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the experiences the animals have in the stories. Ask kids if they've ever felt the way the animal is feeling in the different scenarios, and help them make other connections between themselves and the animals.
Check out the parent section for more questions to ask kids and other ways to play together.
