Parents' Guide to Project Aqua

Parents need to know that Project Aqua is a virtual art studio app for iPad and iPhone that kids can use to boost their artistic creations through coloring, tracing, 3D designing, and more. Kids can use it to participate in design challenges, play pass-and-play games, and learn fundamental art skills. The tool uses AI to modify children's drawings and make them into more polished versions, and they can use their device's camera to superimpose augmented reality on their surroundings. They can even take photos of their paper drawings and build upon them with fun tools. Parents can set a pin code to lock some of the features, like taking photos and sending them. If you don't set up a pin, the app requires you to solve a math problem when you first download it and when you use the photo features. When you download it, you can select whether to allow your children to submit their artwork to be showcased anonymously in the app. After you create your kid's profile, there's a walk-through of different stations, like the Coloring Coast, Capture Cove, and Tracing Tropics. The Spotlight section shows art that kids have made anonymously. While kids are able to draw (or write) inappropriate content, the AI features do not transform them, stating "Oops! There was a problem adding magic to your art." Parents can also view their kids' drawings from their own profile gallery. The tool is free and doesn't have ads or direct in-app purchases.
