Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.

The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Quizzing Toddler Preschool is an easy app for the very young to figure out. For example, three stars appear, a voice says "find the yellow star," and once that object is selected there's immediate applause or kids shouting "yay!" For a wrong selection the object is named, disappears, and the voice says "try again." If the feature is turned on, kids can earn virtual stickers and place them on a page themselves. To select which of the 30 categories of objects your child will see, parents need to hold down a bar at the bottom of the title page. Most categories can be tackled by the preschool set except the fractions, Roman numerals, trees, and flowers. Parents can also choose from three languages -- English, Spanish, or French -- and track their child's progress by category on the statistics page. This app runs a little louder than most. Even on the quietest setting you can hear the correct-answer applause across a room.

What’s It About?
Quizzing Toddler Preschool is a multiple-choice identification game with many categories of words kids can learn. Parents control which categories kids will practice; they can start kids with colors, shapes, and numbers 1 to 9, for example. More challenging categories include fractions and specific tree and bird names. When kids select an incorrect choice, it disappears, narrowing the items to choose from. A correct choice leads to clapping and kids shouting "yay!" After a few rounds, kids earn a sticker for a virtual sticker book.
Is It Any Good?
Parents of a toddler created QUIZZING TODDLER PRESCHOOL, and it shows. It's straightforward and simple, yet offers parents plenty of options to challenge young learners (though the fractions, Roman numerals, tree, and flower categories do go a little far in that regard). And the sticker page will help concentrating kids take a breather and say "oooh, clown fish sticker." The applause and "yays" for correct answers are nice, but come out quite loud, even on the quietest setting. It's a small quibble about an otherwise fun way to tailor learning for little ones.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
When kids get stumped on an object, repeat the object name to them and describe it. If possible, remind them where they've seen that object before.
Point out shapes, colors, animals, etc., everywhere you go with your child and talk through descriptions of them.
Pick up books from the library that relate to a child's new vocabulary.
