What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Santa Mega Pack is a Christmas-themed activity app with several mini-apps for kids, as well as a feature that allows them to call Santa to leave him messages, and then receive calls and texts from him. Since the calls and texts are all in-app only, there aren't any privacy or safety concerns using the app, and most of the activities are fine for young children. Parents should note that this is a fairly large app (118 MB).

Is It Any Good?
SANTA MEGA PACK is a modern take on sending letters to Santa: Now, you can call and leave him a message, and he'll call you back! The app does have a few games and mini-apps included for kids -- some coloring pages, books, puzzles, and so on -- but most of these are pretty simple and nothing really exciting. The home screen shows a wreath with a countdown to Christmas, and then a stocking for each child entered into the database. (The screen scrolls left and right, allowing an unlimited number of kids to be entered.)
What's most interesting is the way the app allows your kids to interact with Santa. On the child's screen is a button to call Santa, which allows them to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. In the "Parents Only" password-locked section, a parent can have Santa call back with a pre-recorded message for their child, or have him send a custom text. Santa can also speak in Spanish, French, or German if desired. Also, the parent can hear the voicemails the kids have left for Santa. An external microphone would be required to record messages on an iPod Touch, but the app may be better suited for iPhone users, since kids will know that -- unlike iPods -- iPhones are actually used to make calls.
