What parents need to know

Ease of play

This game requires a good amount of strategy in lining up the path in each level with the correct combination of hazards and weapons. Many of the levels are designed to be easy to win but difficult to master, giving it a nice combination of challenge and accessibility.

Violence

This is a "tower defense" game in which players set up various weapons and hazards along an obstacle course to prevent a stream of animals from making their way through the course. All incoming animals must be defeated in order to win, so there is no shortage of explosions, cartoony sound effects, and colorful blasts, but players have little to do with actually inflicting pain on anyone. Instead, the hazards they set up previously will automatically attack the incoming creatures, and when defeated they simply disappear.

Privacy & safety

Minor privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple’s Game Center to track scores and achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. With Game Center, players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname, revealing the first and last name associated with each party’s Apple ID and, in the case of email requests, the sender’s email address.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Save Our Sheep is a tower defense game in which players set up a barricade of exploding barrels, flipping rakes, and all manner of zany hazards to prevent animals from getting through the farm. If players are unsuccessful, the animals will walk through the path and reach a flock of sheep at the end. It is the player's goal to keep these sheep safe, and it is their strategy in placing hazards around the farm that will determine whether the sheep remain unharmed. Users can share high scores via the Game Center social network, but participation is optional.

QUALITY

SAVE OUR SHEEP is one of the first iPhone games to use the Unreal Engine, a development platform previously used only for high-end PC and console games. As such, even though the core gameplay is basic in its scope, the presentation is very impressive. Graphics, animations, and environments all look very nice. The game itself plays smoothly, and even though there is nothing particularly exceptional about the gameplay mechanics, it is a pleasure to play through.
