What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Scribble Together Whiteboard allows kids to draw, in real time, with friends and family near and far. The whiteboard can be a blank canvas of unlimited size. Or if parents allow the app to access their device's camera, camera roll, or iCloud documents, kids can also draw on photos or PDF documents. Scribble Together Whiteboard asks for an email address to send a sign-in link to access whiteboards on your computer, but there's an option to skip this step. Individual boards can always be shared through your device's sharing options. Each board has a unique sign-in code to share with friends and family so that they can view and draw on the board using their own device, including a computer's web browser. If kids want to talk to or see the person their drawing with, they need to use a phone or a video chatting app. Scribble Together Whiteboard is compatible with Pencil but can be used fully without it as well. The free download includes access to unlimited whiteboards and all drawing tools. To share boards with others, parents need to subscribe for $4.99/month or $49.99/year; try it out with a 30-day free trial first. Read the developer's privacy policy for details on how your (or your kids') information is collected, used, and shared and any choices you may have in the matter, and note that privacy policies and terms of service frequently change.

What's it about?

A simple demo board gets kids started drawing with SCRIBBLE TOGETHER WHITEBOARD. Use a blank canvas, or load a picture or PDF file as a backdrop. Simple drawing tools include a handful of colors, an eraser, and a disappearing pen. Tap the Share button to generate a special code or link that you can share with family and friends. When they join the board, all can draw together and see edits in real time. Kids can also export boards as a PDF or share a static link to their board.

Is it any good?

This simple drawing platform finds its strength in its streamlined, easy approach to sharing boards across devices. The drawing tools are rudimentary, with only a small number of colors, two pen tip weights, and a few other little extras. This makes Scribble Together Whiteboard less of a drawing tool and more of a platform for sharing with faraway friends and family. Sometimes, when you're trying to explain something complicated, or work with someone on a new idea, it's easier to draw it out than explain it in words. And that's exactly what Scribble Together Whiteboard lets kids do, regardless of where the person they're talking with is physically. It's a really easy process to share boards with others, and it's fun to watch the board update in real time as your partner or partners draw on the whiteboard. With this method, kids can get homework help, collaborate on projects, or draw on documents or pictures with anyone, anywhere.

Talk to your kids about ...

• Families can talk about the sharing options in Scribble Together Whiteboard. Go over your expectations about who your kids can share their boards with and how to use your device's sharing options safely.

  • Help kids connect with faraway loved ones. Grandma and Grandpa can help kids with their math homework, or you can draw together on a picture for a silly family portrait.
