The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Tap DJ is a turntable app that lets you import music tracks from your iTunes library and turn them into virtual vinyl records that can be scratched and mixed with different effects such as echo, reverb, and stereo panning. There's no tutorial, so be prepared to dive into the app's text-heavy help files to learn about everything it has to offer.

Is It Any Good?
TAP DJ recreates the turntable experience on the iPhone quite convincingly. The touch screen works very well for scratching, and you can even use the app's GyroScratch feature to let the motion of the phone itself spin the record. Songs can be imported from an iTunes library, but the app may not recognize older files that have copy-protection. Unfortunately, the app lacks automatic BPM matching (the ability to sync up the beats of both tracks) -- a feature that would have taken it to the next level. As it stands, though, Tap DJ is a fun and affordable app that lets people dabble in turntable mixing without shelling out thousands of dollars for DJ equipment.
