Decent but unnecessarily bloody tower defense game.

What’s It About?
In WORLD WAR DOH: REAL TIME PVP, two brothers (who are also leaders of their own countries -- which may explain why they look like stereotypical dictators from the '80s) sit down to sign a peace treaty. Unfortunately, their pens run out of ink, their pencils break, and even their ink-squirting squids are unable to perform. This. Means. War. That's why you engage in a series of strategic, tower defense-style shooting matching against other online players, with you and them playing as the brothers, and all manner of crazy characters as your loyal soldiers.
Is It Any Good?
Though it has a certain appeal, it also has some needless violence that undermines what could've been a fun game for younger players. In World War Doh: Real Time PVP, two dictators -- who are also brothers -- go to war on small battlefields, with you deciding where your gun-toting character goes, what they shoot, and what sidekicks and armaments join them. Plus, you have towers that can heal you or make you temporarily more powerful (assuming your enemy doesn't destroy them first). And things just get crazier from there. Not only can you call in airstrikes, set up turrets, or deploy troops that include stinging bugs, but you have a Godzilla-like monster at your disposal. All of which you'll need, given that your fight isn't just against your brother, it's against some another online player of this game who has the same kind of arsenal.
The thing is, as entertaining as this can be, it's hard not to see how much better it could've been. And not just if they changed the "Doh" in the name to "D'oh" and made this a Simpsons game. No, it's partially because the controls are imprecise, and sometimes require you to get really close to someone before you can attack them. This also has a rather unnecessary amount of graphic gore -- such as seeing Godzilla's insides when he's cut in half, or the bones of your sockets when your limbs are blown off -- that keeps this otherwise silly and cartoon game from being appropriate for teens and tweens, both of whom would appreciate this more than serious-minded adults. Still, if you enjoy tower defense games, mindless violence, and sibling rivalries that go too far, World War Doh: Real Time PVP is a half-way decent way to wage war.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about violence in video games. Is the impact of the violence in World War Doh: Real Time PVP, affected by the graphic nature of the combat? Would the game be as fun if the gameplay wasn't as violent or gory?
In World War Doh, players earn gems and coins by playing, though they can also be bought from the in-game store with real money, so how do you decide how much to spend -- or not spend -- when a game is free?
