A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this book.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Jimmy Fallon's 5 More Sleeps 'Til Christmas is a warm, joyful picture book filled with idyllic holidays scenes and a kid's anticipation of traditional Christmas morning fun. The illustrations are immersive, with wide-eyed kids and cozy settings, and the rhyming and word repetition make for a fun read-aloud. The scenes in the home and the boy's Santa list are fairly stereotypical, and kids anticipating Christmas Day can relate to his unbridled excitement. The message on Christmas morning, though, isn't that he's enjoying the moment, but he's already thinking ahead to the next Christmas.

What's the Story?
An eager boy looking forward to Christmas morning has trouble containing his excitement in Jimmy Fallon's 5 MORE SLEEPS 'TIL CHRISTMAS. Every night, he counts down the sleeps until he can race to the tree and open his presents. He's done everything to get ready -- eaten popcorn, drunk hot chocolate, crunched on candy canes -- but only going to sleep will get him closer to the big morning after Santa has come.
Is It Any Good?
The illustrations in this happy holiday book are amazing, capturing the facial expressions of delight, exhaustion, and anticipation with childlike wonder. The countdown of nights in 5 Sleeps 'Til Christmas is idyllic -- filled with hot chocolate, lists of gifts, a dog, and a warm, inviting home -- and the pacing and repetition makes this a great read-aloud book. For all its warmth and joy, there's a bit of a letdown at the end when the boy is quick to be done enjoying the moment and turns his thoughts to waiting for next year's Christmas morning. That aside, kids can relate to the buildup and excitement that comes with celebrating special holidays.
