What's the Story?
Young Warm, later to be known as A WOLF CALLED FIRE, is smaller, slower, and weaker than his littermates. But when most of his family is killed, maimed, or taken prisoner by another pack of wolves taking their home, it falls to him to protect the next generation of puppies, get them to safety, and teach them what they need to know. As he struggles to protect the little ones from their would-be killers, lessons he's learned from his lost elders about teamwork, kindness, and looking out for each other serve him well and help the little family find support.
Is It Any Good?
This engaging and cheer-worthy story about a how a bullied young pup forced into leadership, overcomes his fears, and lets kindness, responsibility, and teamwork be his guide. As A Wolf Called Fire—known by his birth name of Warm—is left to protect his baby siblings, his fears, heart, and determination are relatable and compelling to readers as they share his joys and losses. In Rosanne Parry's fourth Voice of the Wilderness book a strong love of nature shines through the engaging narrative, and Mónica Armiño's appealing illustrations vividly bring the characters and their environment to life. The appendix has lots of photos, science, and resources for learning more.
