What's the Story?
A celebration of noticing and appreciating small moments and big events, DARLING BABY speaks to a child about slow days centered on shimmering fish, delicious pie, sun and clouds and time outside, and time spent together. Author Maira Kalman based the book on a journal she kept from the early months with her grandchild, and focuses on the gentle moments of connection.
Is It Any Good?
With bright watercolors and imaginative sketches, author engaging story has a lovely message about being fully present with each other, especially with young children. Darling Baby captures the small moments that matter to a child, paying attention to the details of being near the sea with a gentleness that makes this a perfect read-aloud story to snuggle in with at bedtime or when there are shimmering fish to see or geese to count.
