What's the Story?
In the DRAGON GIRLS series, girls discover that they have special powers when they turn into dragons who all have different gifts based on the girls' real personalities and abilities. In the first story arc, three girls/dragons work together to help the Tree Queen protect her magical forest from the Shadow Sprites and Shadow Queen. Azmina is new to her school but feels a connection to Naomi and Willa even before spending time with them. She's surprised to discover she can fly and roar glitter, and life in her new town gets much better when she finds out Naomi and Willa are the other parts of the magical dragon trio. Together, the three take on tough quests to find everything the Tree Queen needs to defend this special forest from those who want to make it dull and dark forever. As the series continues, more girls/dragons join the adventures with separate story arcs.
Is It Any Good?
Each story in the series follows a familiar formula but shares a different take on how friends can navigate tough times. Each girl has her own worries—common for kids and adults—like being the new person at school or comparing their own talents to others. The themes of teamwork and support are strong throughout, and the girls are quick to help and appreciate each other. As the girls/dragons travel through the magic forest to find ingredients for potions, their focus on doing good things and trying to make the world a better place fills readers with hope and optimism.
