What's the Story?

GORGEOUSLY ME! shows a group of schoolmates in different scenes, swinging on the monkey bars, playing soccer, performing a dance onstage, plunging into a swimming hole, doing art in a classroom, parading down a city block, running through sprinklers on the grass. The kids mainly embody self-confidence and pride, but some also express occasionally feeling blue and getting through tough times with the love and support of their friends. "When I'm feeling low and like I don't belong, it's those around me who make me feel strong."

This delightful, affirming picture book invites kids to celebrate who they are, take pride in their uniqueness, and be kind to others. The kids in Gorgeously Me! are brimming with self-confidence and get through low moments with the help and acceptance of their friends. It's hard not to be swept up in their joyful exuberance and community spirit. And author Jonathan Van Ness' positive messages about self-acceptance and radiating love to others are valuable for readers young and old alike.
