What's the Story?
In HEIR OF FIRE, Celaena Sardothien, now the royal assassin for the King of Aderlan, travels overseas, heartbroken and alone. As she seeks a way to free the land from the corrupt rule of the Valg, she finds herself confronting a past she'd rather keep buried. Meanwhile, back home, Dorian's newfound magic is yet another secret Choal is forced to keep from the king. Yet as the threat of danger to the kingdom grows, it will be up to these three to keep the realm safe. Will they find the courage necessary to face great danger, or will they succumb to the flames of destruction?
Is It Any Good?
Action-packed and full of emotional depth, this installment is arguably one of the best of the series. The transformation Celaena undergoes in Heir of Fire raises the story to a new level of emotional intensity while increasing the stakes for every character in the book. Meanwhile, Sarah J. Maas introduces several new and compelling characters, both broadening and deepening the world and its cast of compelling and conflicted heroes and villains. As usual, the author pulls no punches, creating flawed yet deeply lovable characters, only to drag them to hell and back.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about Celeana's character in Heir of Fire. How does her courage show up in both physical and emotional ways?
What do you think about the amount of violence in fantasy books? Would the story be as engaging if there weren't the life and death stakes found in these kinds of novels?
Can you think of a time you helped someone who needed assistance, even if you knew others might judge you for it?
