What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Heroes Wear Masks: Elmo's Super Adventure, by Sesame Workshop, is a compassionate, straightforward guide to help kids navigate masks and other safety protocols that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. In true Elmo style, the little red monster is both excited to go to school and nervous about all the new things he will have to do to be there: distancing, some school work at home, wearing masks, and more. This excellent book lets children know that they aren't alone in their fear and anxiety, and gives them the tools to be in control of their situation. At the end of the book, there are tips for grown-ups to help children understand why masks are important, ideas for staying healthy, and ways to help children with school anxiety.

Elmo is returning to school and feels anxious about all the new things he has to do and remember for his day. He and his mommy talk about washing hands, social distancing, doing school from home, temperature checks, wearing masks, and more. Filled with tips about wearing and using masks just like superheroes do, the book also has tips for keeping healthy and dealing with school anxiety.

Is it any good?

Rooted in kindness and written with straightforward language that's perfect for young children, this book is an excellent resource for families heading back to school or navigating life in a pandemic.
