Good for 2nd graders +

Terrific series with little to worry about! Violence: 2/5 occasional action and peril with few details. Some frightening plagues, illnesses, and weather. In one of the later books, Laura houses with a woman who is violent with her husband. Language: 1/5 some outdated racial insults but nothing over the top. A few swears that a old fashioned like gol ding it, and a use of damn. Maybe some use of asses to refer to donkeys. Romance: 2/5 in the later books ,Laura quietly crushes on others, with a few kisses. Eventually Laura marries and has a child, with the labor in slight detail(pain and strange smells but very brief and nothing graphic). Drinking: 3/5men drink in saloons and get drunk at hotels. Pa smokes a pipe and chews tobacco. Good series!! All ages will like it. Messages/models/educational value: a great lot of learning about agriculture and old fashioned work. Laura and her family is tough and brave and strong-fantastic!
