What's the Story?
TE AMO, SOL - TE AMO, LUNA / I LOVE YOU, SUN - I LOVE YOU, MOON is a story of children exploring their surroundings. Each page shows a different child connecting with what he or she sees in both Spanish and English by pointing at the sun/sol, flying a kite in the wind/viento, watering a flower/flor, etc. and saying "te amo/I love you" to each of those things.
Is It Any Good?
This sweet story of curiosity and exploration is a good fit for little kids. Toddlers will enjoy reading Te amo, sol - Te amo, luna / I Love You, Sun - I Love You, Moon. Karen Pandell's use of repetition invites little kids to read along and makes it fun to learn a new Spanish and English word at the end of the repeated phrase on each page. Tomie dePaola's warm and colorful illustrations will also draw little kids into this adorable little board book.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the things they see all around them just like the children do in Te amo, sol - Te amo, luna / I Love You, Sun - I Love You, Moon. Which words can we use to name some of the things we see? In English? In Spanish?
What do you love? How do you express love with words? How do you express love without words?
Just like in the book, we can express our love for the earth: "Te amo, tierra. / I love you, earth." What are some things we can do to show the earth love?
