What's the Story?
In THANK YOU HELPERS, author Patricia Hegarty uses simple rhymes to celebrate the roles of specific essential workers in a community. From doctors and nurses to grocery workers, drivers, and teachers, it takes many different people to keep a community thriving. Illustrator Michael Emmerson's colorful illustrations on each page to add detail to the vital work described in the rhymes.
Is It Any Good?
Upbeat rhymes and unfussy illustrations fill pages with gratitude for essential workers, going beyond the emergency and medical fields to include people kids see in everyday life. Thank You, Helpers takes a closer look at the variety of roles it takes to keep a community going, and while the overall book is a little simple, each page gives specific job details that remind readers why to celebrate that helper. A great read-aloud book, younger readers will be able to connect the jobs they see on the pages to real people they know, and get a broader understanding of what happens in their communities.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about who in their lives is an essential worker like any of the people in Thank You, Helpers. What do they do? Do you think they know how much their community needs and appreciates them?
Does seeing these jobs in action make you want to do any of them when you grow up? Have you ever thought about being a doctor, a teacher, a grocery worker, or delivery person?
