What's the Story?

In THE LAST FALLEN REALM, Riley Oh and her sister, Hattie, must figure out how to stop an impending war and the collapse of all three realms (mortalrealm, spiritrealm, and godrealm). Having upset some powerful goddesses, Riley, Hattie, and their friends and mythological spirit creature pals work together to prevent the certain destruction of the known world. To make matters worse, the entire spiritrealm and godrealm have been tricked into believing a false promise of a perfect future, and every adult witch has fallen under some sort of spell that makes them act like mind-controlled statues. Can a handful of 13-year-olds and their mythological spirit pals save the world, again?

This satisfying fantasy series-ender gets off to a quick start and doesn't look back. Fans of the first two books in the series, The Last Fallen Realm: Gifted Clans, Book 3 will quickly re-orient themselves back in the world of the Oh sisters and their friends as they work together to beat a seemingly unbeatable foe. (Newcomers should start at the beginning, as references to events and characters from the previous books are mentioned without sufficient summary or context.)

The good news is this final act is as assured and confident as the first two. While it doesn't have the emotional impact of the first or the complexity of the second, this adventure steadily barrels onward through challenge after challenge, test after test, small mystery after small mystery. This makes for a quick and exciting read, though on occasion it feels like the story is going too fast. And while Riley does have small moments of recognition and reflection, there are no slow moments to absorb the action and take a breather from tense scenes. Here, it's all action, all the time, for better and for worse.
