What's the Story?

Have you every asked the question, WHAT DO BROTHAS DO ALL DAY? Well here's the answer: they do everything everyone else does. From riding in their car or getting a haircut to cooking a meal and spending time with loved ones. There doesn't need to be any mystery about brotha's lives, because it mirrors the lives of all people. Brothas have a life rich with pride and strength.

This simple story accomplishes much. What Do Brothas Do All Day? humanizes and demystifies the lives of Black American men and boys, for those that are curious. It also celebrates the lives of Black American men and boys and calls for pride and joy to be taken in everyday activities. The story is a nice balance between the ordinary and extraordinary qualities of Brothas' lives. Ajuan Mance's illustrations are colorful and bold. Young readers will easily be able to follow the story and the relatability can lead to fun discussions.
