The M rating is undeserved
I don't know why the ESBR does what it does, but oh well.
I would say that it's not a game for young children. There's a lot of disturbing themes and violence - that being said, it's not excessive and gratuitous, it all contributes to the theme. So if you're fine with the disturbing setting of the game, it's a great game with very deep themes.
