What's the Story?

ALMOST COPS is a Dutch action comedy about Ramon (Jandino Asporaat), a friendly neighborhood cop, and Jack (Werner Kolf), a tough ex-detective who lost his job for breaking the rules. When they're forced to work together on a murder case in Rotterdam, they clash at first but soon realize they have more in common than they thought. As they follow clues and suspects and face danger, their teamwork grows stronger.

This Dutch buddy cop film is a sweet and surprisingly fresh comedy that finds its own rhythm by grounding action tropes in the streets of Rotterdam. While it borrows the structure of classic genre films like Bad Boys, it sets itself apart with a childlike sense of humor and a compassionate core. Jandino Asporaat as Ramon is a joy to watch, fully committed to the film's over-the-top tone while giving his character real warmth, especially in scenes opposite the teenage actors. Werner Kolf as his reluctant partner Jack is the perfect contrast, tough and guarded but slowly learning to open up. Their dynamic is built on trust, forgiveness, and mutual care, which gives the film an emotional depth that truly sneaks up on you.

Almost Cops balances silly jokes and genuine feeling with a steady hand, never letting the laughs undercut the emotional stakes. The recurring bits with the two teens are hilarious, and there's a chase scene that feels genuinely new, a rare feat in the genre. Almost Cops also stands out for its commitment to showing how grief can shape us without defining us, and how healing often comes through unexpected friendships. Its representation is refreshing, its pacing tight, and its tone just right for older teens looking for a feel-good action film with heart.
