With trauma, a custody battle, gangsters, and homelessness to contend with, lead character Danny faces more than his share of problems in this Irish crime thriller. All these threads in Amongst the Wolves sometimes feel like they overstuff the movie, and none of them fully get the attention they deserve. But it feels fast-moving rather than bloated, as each plot point is stripped down to its essentials, resulting in a compelling drama with realistic characters making difficult decisions. This is helped further by believable performances by the cast and lots of talking points for families.
