What's the Story?

In ARINI BY LOVE.INC, Arini (Della Dartyan) joins a high-tech service that promises to help find people their perfect love matches. But the job requires her to sleep, eat, and live at the company. Soon, however, it seems that there's something the company isn't telling its agents. For one, their memories are being erased, which makes Arini start to doubt how long she has actually been with the company.

The premise is interesting, but the presentation and sequencing of this thriller are muddled and feel rushed. More questions than answers happen throughout Arini by Love.inc, which makes watching it unfortunately more confusing and difficult than enjoyable. For example, it never becomes completely clear what the company's agents actually do for the company. While they are shown "training" often, learning about "how to be agreeable" and "how to be good at communicating," the film never clarifies what exactly they do for the company. Later, the film suggests, perhaps, that the agents are ultimately training to be escorts or dates or clients, but even this isn't entirely clear, as another possibility is that they actually get into full relationships with chosen or "matched" clients who pay for the company's services.

Further, the way the agents have their memories erased is incredibly vague, as is how the two main characters become immune to the memory-erasing, beyond something having to do with trying to remember "good and beautiful" memories. On top of these larger issues, many small illogical moments pile up, including how an adult man is fully knocked out by a shoe, how people just don't hear things they clearly should, and why one character only helps herself (and not her friend) when she can.

  • Families can talk about violence in dramatic thrillers. Did the violence in Arini by Love.inc seem realistic or believable? Why or why not?

  • What do you think "the agents" were tasked to do? Do you think the film made this vague for a reason?

  • How long do you think Arini and Tiara were ultimately at the company?
