Blue Eyed Girl
What's the Story?
A journey of midlife self-discovery, BLUE EYED GIRL follows the story of 40-something mom Jane (Marisa Coughlan), who comes home after her father gets sick. Feeling nostalgic, Jane—who's tempted by the "what ifs" as an escape from her current life—decides to explore, romanticize, and chase old dreams. On the brink of a midlife crisis, she's forced to reevaluate her life, face hard truths about her dreams and her reality, and learn to live authentically. Beau Bridges, Eliza Coupe, Sam Trammell, and Freddy Rodriguez co-star.
Is It Any Good?
Director J. Mills Goodloe's dramedy is a vulnerable journey of authentic self-discovery and reconciliation. Blue Eyed Girl takes a hard look at midlife and tears it apart, offering a raw, emotional reflection about being at the crossroads of our past and our present and coming to terms with our dreams—and our realities. Trauma, dark humor, and mental health issues abound, which codes it as millennial-targeted—and makes it the rare coming-of-age film that vocalizes the relatable, messy struggles of adulthood without overglamorizing things for the big screen. It's the sort of film that grieves childhood nostalgia, dreams, and ideals in an honest, cathartic way. Is it for kids? Probably not. But older viewers are likely to appreciate this nuanced, relatable midlife film about second chances.
