Boonie Bears: Time Twist
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In BOONIE BEARS: TIME TWIST, lumberjack Vick (voiced by Paul "Maxx" Rinehart) feels he's wasted his life in the forest, so he takes the chance to change time and start a successful career in the city instead. When time-travel trouble catches up with him, he must fight off the monstrous Time Gobbler and choose which path means the most to him.
Is It Any Good?
The 10th Boonie Bears movie plays like a greatest hits for fans. Boonie Bears: Time Twist finds familiar faces of friends and foes flashing through time as lumberjack Vick fights for his future and tries to save his past. There is plenty for kids to enjoy, from big crashy battle scenes to barbed humor. But the bulk of the animated movie is decidedly middle-aged. Vick's turmoil that makes up the movie (the bears barely feature) is about the daily grind, his dissatisfaction with life, and losing touch with friends and faded memories. He compares himself to others on social media and has no partner and, he feels, no prospects. He appreciates his life eventually, but some of the journey feels long (nearly two hours long).
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about some of the feelings that Vick experienced in Boonie Bears: Time Twist. Why did he feel the way he did? What impact did social media have on his mood? What must we consider when looking at other people's social media posts?
Talk about the violence in the film. Did you think it was exciting? Fun? Scary? Worrying? Or a combination of them all? What is the impact of screen violence on children?
How did this compare to other films from the Boonie Bears series? Did you like this being a Vick story, or would you have liked to have seen more of the Boonie Bears? Who is your favorite character, and why?
