What's the Story?
Hasley Weigel (Eve Ryan) is the new girl at school in a mid-sized city in Spain at the start of BOULEVARD. Classmate Olivia (Ainara Helguera) immediately invites Hasley into her friend group. Among them is Matt (Biel Antón), the classically handsome sports star who takes an immediate liking to Hasley. But Hasley is attracted to the withdrawn loner in a leather jacket who smokes joints outside the school. It turns out Luke Howland (Mikel Niso) lost a brother in an accident and has never been the same. As Hasley and Luke get to know each other, their bond grows. But their relationship may never be accepted by the others at school, and Luke has his own demons to overcome.
Is It Any Good?
Many teen romances these days feel cut from the same cloth (and in some cases, they are—Wattpad), but this entry from Spain is still watchable and features some fresh faces. The main characters of Boulevard are played by Ryan, Niso, Helguera, and Antón in credible and likable performances. Despite the teens' troubles, there's an innocence to these characters that's also refreshing.
Even so, the film is overly long and ends with an unnecessary twist that pulls the proceedings even further into melodrama. There was enough here not to have to wade into the sap; for example, a storyline about the teens fulfilling their dreams in accessible ways has legs.

Families can talk about whether the portrayal of how Luke deals with his grief feels realistic or not in Boulevard. Did his family offer him the support he needed? Explain.
Hasley has been moved around a lot; at her new school, kids complain about being stuck in the same place. Which do you think is preferable for kids and teenagers? Why?
