Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
BREAKING POINT tells the story of two brothers, Benji (Karam Singh) and Trey (Kelvin Clark), who are both gifted dancers yet have different ambitions in life. With a global breakdancing championship on the horizon, they must learn to put their differences, old resentments, and trauma -- deriving from their mother's untimely death -- to one side and join forces to help Britain win gold.
Is It Any Good?
This British breakdancing drama follows the very familiar or, arguably, tired formula of the sports-competition movie. Breaking Point sticks to the same rules and follows the same narrative structure seen countless times before. It might have been able to get away with these shortcomings had the acting performances of the two central characters been stronger. It's harsh on Singh and Clark, who've clearly been cast for their remarkable breakdancing ability. And they can really dance. But without a real background in acting, it's fair to say that some of the bigger, more emotionally charged sequences are a little above them. The film also lacks an engaging story. Rather than much-needed character development and story-building, directors Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini often just throw in another, albeit impressive, dancing montage.
