What's the Story?
In CHOR NIKAL KE BHAGA, Ankit (Sunny Kaushal) is on a plane when he meets flight attendant Neha (Yami Gautum), and is immediately attracted to her. He later runs into her in a nightclub, and, eventually, the two fall in love. Things seem to be blissful between them, and Neha becomes pregnant, but Neha soon learns that Ankit is in trouble when a couple of goons show up at the restaurant where they're eating and make violent threats. Turns out, Ankit, a former insurer of diamonds, lost a large sum of money after a business deal went awry, and must find a way to pay it back. He enlists the help of Neha, and they find a way to smuggle two diamond-encrusted smartphone cases onto a plane. Once they're on the plane, it seems that they are in the home stretch of their plan, but, as it turns out, it's just the beginning, because hijackers have taken over the plane. Things take a dark and violent turn, and as things go from bad to worse, it seems that there's more to Ankit than he's letting on, and there's also more to Neha as well.
Is It Any Good?
This is a fine if needlessly complicated Bollywood heist action movie. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga doesn't really stay in one lane, and plot twist after dizzying plot twist gets to be disorienting. There's a lot to unpack in what at first glance appears to be a story on "the things we do for love" (including stealing diamonds to pay off large debts incurred by one's partner), then turns into a hijacking disaster movie, then, by the time we get to Act 3, reveals that nothing at all is what it seems.
The problem is that the big reveals aren't particularly rewarding, and while there's enough entertainment value to sustain the movie, all the plot twists and backstories and big reveals get to be exhausting.
