What's the Story?

In COSMIC PRINCESS KAGUYA!, Iroha (Anna Nagase) is a hardworking 17-year-old girl who juggles work and school in hopes of independence from her parents. But when she finds a baby in a lamppost, who magically fell from the moon, she begins an adventure full of song, fighting, and friendship.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Inventively, this anime mashes together music, fighting, and sci-fi elements to create an often visually stunning adventure. The action throughout Cosmic Princess Kaguya! is frequently creative, flashy, and thrilling. The camerawork in particular highlights fight and action sequences deftly, swirling around characters at certain moments, pausing and resuming in classic anime styles, and shifting perspectives and points of view. Every time action is happening, there's something exciting to see. Also, this movie has many song performances and sequences, and while they don't hit the heights of similar titles like KPop Demon Hunters, there's still a lot to like here.

Some younger viewers might get a bit confused with the story in the latter half of this movie, as some of the plot points aren't very clear. Suddenly introducing time-travel and different versions of the same character, for example, might frustrate some viewers. But if you don't take the plot holes and structural issues (like its overly long run time) seriously, there's a lot of fun to be had here. Iroha is a likable and strong main character, representing a desire to be independent and disciplined while also wanting friendship, security, and fun in life.
