Performance powerhouse.

McConaughey and Leto are terrific, and they’re easily the best part about the whole movie. That kind of says a bit about how most of the script isn’t as good, though. That’s not to say that it isn’t good, because it is, but without the performances, it wouldn’t have been as good. There’s some nice directing and cool sound design, nonetheless, but it does go on for about ten minutes too many. There really isn’t much else to say about it. 8.3/10, great, one thumb up, above average, etc.

The McConaissance lives on

"Bernie," "Mud," "Wolf of Wall Street"...I said Matthew was on fire back when I saw "Mud," one of 2013's very best offerings. While I believe "Mud" is a superior picture to this, "DBC" sees the newly invented actor in a role he was, to use the cliche, surely born to play. He so perfectly captures 80s-era Texas persona that you quit realizing it's a movie for a while. It is a performance worthy of an Academy Award, to say the least. Leto is also great as Rayon, his unlikely drag queen partner, nailing the affections of someone in that position, and bringing emotional weight towards the end of the film. The film's message isn't simple: what is a man willing to do keep living, and how does this affect everyone around him? Come for the soon-to-be duo of Oscar-winning performances, stay for a rousing, adults-only drama that'll give you hope for a change in the world.

McConaughey and Leto stole the movie.

Dallas Buyers Club is one of the best movies of all time. It was powerful, raw, emotional and riveting. The true story was great, the music was decent, but Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof and Jared Leto as Rayon were phenomenal. McConaughey gave the best performance in his career. Grade: A+.

Alright, Alright, Alright!!!

One of Matthew McConaughey's best performance of his career. Jared Leto deserves the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, because he is fantastic as the transgender AIDS patient, Rayon. The film is very good; slows down a bit towards the end of the film.

Brilliant.

Dallas Buyers Club had the right amount of everything to make a movie good; brilliant actors, a good script, and a touching story. There is quite a bit of sex/sexual content, swearing, and drugs/alcohol. This is a movie about a man that's HIV positive, homophobic, and crass, so there is content that may be iffy for less mature children or teens. The content of this movie is quite heavy, and it slows down at the end. Still a must watch, and in my list of favorite movies of all time.

Great Movie, But Not For Kids

Dallas Buyers Club is an amazing movie. It had amazing performances by Matthew McConaughey & Jared Leto. But its definitely not for kids. There is a fair amount of graphic sex, keeping in mind that the movie is about a guy who is HIV positive. There is also a lot of swearing, including over 100 uses of the f-word. There is not much violence in the movie. Drugs is another problem in the movie. Jared Leto's character, is a drug addict. With all this in mind, the movie has a well deserved R rating. Overall, the adult themes in the movie doesn't take away the fact that the movie is great. Sex: 8/10 Violence: 4/10 Language: 9/10 Drugs and Alcohol: 9/10. Dallas Buyers Club is a great movie, but honestly, nothing a 16 year old couldn't handle. Movie Score: 8/10
