What's the Story?

In DELIVERY BY CHRISTMAS, Maria (Monika Frajczyk) is a courier for a package delivery company. On Christmas Eve, a disgruntled superior places incorrect labels on her last packages, sending her on a route that brings all the wrong items to all the wrong people. As soon as Krzysiek (Piotr Pacek) opens his box and sees it's not the heirloom ring he hoped his grandfather was sending to facilitate Krzysiek's impending engagement, he aggressively intrudes on Maria's holiday evening. He forces his way into her van and, belittling and insulting Maria, accompanies the annoyed courier on her correction mission. Another recipient of a wrong item, a lonely tailor, receives a fertility figurine with a large erect penis. This leads him to mistakenly believe that the supposed sender, a sexually-frustrated middle-aged wife, wants to have sex with him. When she arrives for a last-minute seam repair, he greets her nude. Will Maria be able to make everything right?

Given that the premise of Delivery by Christmas -- a package mix-up causes major problems -- is spelled out early in the action, this takes an awfully long time to let us know the problems the mix-ups cause and how they will be resolved. Characters behave stupidly. A man who can't drive tries to steal a van but only manages to get the police on his tail. Two police officers act like fools. A boss sabotages an underling with no apparent benefit to himself. A man who seems insufferable suddenly becomes inexplicably nice. With the exception of the courier (played by a sincere and endearing Monika Frajczyk), there's hardly anyone to care about.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the way Maria does her best to make her young son happy on Christmas. What does this say about her character?

  • How does Krzysiek change from being a selfish and disdainful villain into a decent guy? Do you believe the change? Why or why not?

  • Do you think Maria and Krzysiek end up together, or does it matter?
