Parents' Guide to Devara Part 1

Parents need to know that Devara Part 1 is an Indian action-packed epic that follows village chief Devara and his son, Vara (both played by N.T. Rama Rao Jr.), in their attempts to abolish smuggling. This leads them into battles with other chieftains, notably the villainous Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan). There is extreme gore and violence—with bloody corpses shown at multiple points—chase sequences, physical fights, and big explosions. Characters wield sharp blades, guns, and rifles to kill on a mass scale, including beheadings. A character is brutally tortured for information and someone's tongue is almost cut off with a pair of pliers. A character deliberately pierces their back with sharp edges of a weapon to kill themselves. A character also attempts suicide by trying to drown themselves at sea but they are saved. Multiple characters surround someone and threaten to sexually assault them. Lots of smoking and drinking. During one sequence, a character's drink is spiked with a substance that makes their vision blurry. The few female characters are given little agency, merely serving men as wives, mothers, daughters, and romantic interests. Language includes "monster," "beast," "mad," "hell," and "damn." The film is in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil with English subtitles available.
