What's the Story?
Marfil Cortés (Ester Exposito), the daughter of Spanish business tycoon Alejandro (Pablo Molinero), is kidnapped at the beginning of DRAWN TOGETHER: MARFIL. Her father insists she take in a bodyguard, Sebastian (Hugo Diego Garcia), who will live with her in New York and follow her every move. Marfil and Sebastian grow feelings for each other, just as events begin to unfold that will mean even more threats to her entire family.
Is It Any Good?
Author Mercedes Ron has found a formula for her books, and this film aims to repeat the success of previous screen adaptations of her work. Drawn Together will speak to the same audience, who might also be willing to overlook character deficiencies in the name of attractive young love. Who cares if Marfil often behaves like a spoiled child, or whether Sebastian had a life at all before he met her? They're beautiful, and circumstances have pushed them together—though of course those same circumstances will force them apart. The film acknowledges its own likely inspiration when the pair attends a screening of The Bodyguard.
