What's the Story?
In EEPHUS, sometime in the 1990s, two New England adult amateur baseball teams face off on their beloved baseball field on the last day before it gets demolished. During the game, players talk and tease each other as they say goodbye to their past.
Is It Any Good?
In a deliberately slow celebration of quiet moments, Eephus romanticizes America's favorite pastime with a poignant, bittersweet message about the passing of time. In a film filled with allegory that's clearly geared for adults, Carson Lund refuses to create another baseball film with traditional character development and a fast-paced plot. Instead, he invites the audience to sit through a long, dramatically drawn-out day—listening to casual conversations, joining in on the ribbing, and feeling a sense of belonging while pondering the unavoidable march of time. The symbolism will either resonate strongly or fall flat, depending on how much the viewer enjoys meandering and nostalgic stories.
