What's the Story?

EXTERRITORIAL is about combat veteran Sara Wulf (Jeanne Goursaud), who's at the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, to apply for a visa with her 6-year-old son, Josh (Rickson Guy da Silva). When Josh suddenly disappears, Sara will have to bring the whole complex to a standstill in order to find him. She'll have to use all her military training and enlist the help of Irina (Lera Abova), a mysterious "guest" of the consulate, and head of security Erik Kynch (Dougray Scott). But someone's working hard to keep Josh away from his mother. Is it a conspiracy, or is it all in Sara's mind?

This is a fairly entertaining action movie with mystery and suspense, but it's also a bit uneven in a number of ways. There are a lot of familiar tropes in Exterritorial that are handled well enough but don't add anything new or unusual to the story, like wondering whether there's really a conspiracy and kidnapping. The acting is also pretty uneven, with a few cast members turning in very good performances but many minor characters who seem inexperienced at best. The fights are easy to follow but aren't especially innovative. And some aspects of the story just don't work logically. Overall it makes a nice popcorn movie for casual fans of action movies, but serious fans may expect more.
