Fall 2: Deadpoint
What's the Story?
In FALL 2: DEADPOINT, Jax Hunter (Harriet Slater) is mourning the death of her sister, Shiloh (Virginia Gardner), a social media influencer who was focused on daring stunts. When Jax, along with Shiloh's friend Luce (Arsema Thomas), finds Shiloh's notebook of planned adventures, they decide to tackle the next one on the list: scaling Thailand's treacherous Mount Kwan. But when the unstable plank walk crumbles, the two women are stranded alone on a 4,000-foot cliff, and survival seems more and more unlikely.
Is It Any Good?
You're more likely to get vertigo than a good time from watching this slapped-together sequel. After the success of Fall, a clever idea that had some creativity to its altitude awe, two sequels were quickly greenlit, and that speediness is felt in Fall 2: Deadpoint. The characters' decisions are dumb, the tone is numb, and the plot holes are many. Shots of the daunting distance between the women's location on broken planks, hovering above the abyss below, don't deliver the knots in the stomach that they should, perhaps because viewers aren't emotionally invested. Jax and Luce's decisions defy reason, and we aren't given a chance to see their relationship grow (they've only just met when they decide, foolishly, to take on this adventure, against Jax's much better judgment).
The tension plays like a horror movie in which the predator is the mountain, luring adrenaline junkies with its sheer rock face and the promise of a reward at the top. Friends may laugh together in nervousness and shout at the screen, slapping their heads more than biting their nails. All of that said, when teens manage to recognize that movie characters are making mistakes, it's like they're teaching themselves a lesson. So while Fall 2 isn't good, it's also not so bad.

Families can talk about the meaning of the term "face your fears" and whether it's properly applied in Fall 2: Deadpoint. How are "fear" and "a gut feeling" connected, and when should we pay attention to our body's warning signals?
Are drinking, smoking, or drug use glamorized here? Are there realistic consequences for their use? Why does that matter?
Do you consider Jax and Luce brave or reckless? Why do you think some people are driven to conquer nature or "defy death"?
If you saw the first film, how do Jax and Luce compare to Shiloh Hunter and Becky? The directors and writers of both movies are men—do you think that makes a difference to telling a female-centered story?
How do Jax and Luce use teamwork and perseverance? Why are these important life skills?
