What's the Story?

Sid (Babil Khan) is a model student and a good son who becomes a sudden sensation when he helps his school win a soccer match, leading the popular kids to invite him to their FRIDAY NIGHT PLAN, an exclusive party where teenagers escape the stress of the week. Urged by his youngest brother Adi (Amrith Jayan) to take their mother's car and bring him to the party, the teenagers encounter several misadventures and learn about the importance of staying true to themselves and following rules.

This Indian, Hindi-language film follows the tradition of high school comedies like Mean Girls and Ferris Bueller's Day Off without adding anything new to the genre. In Friday Night Plan, brothers Sid and Adi become involved in a night of misadventures as they try to climb up the popularity ladder in their high school. Although the film starts with a kick, quite literally as a winning goal turns the nerdy Sid into a school celebrity, it soon loses its freshness and falls into predictable tropes.

As Sid, Khan makes for a lovable hero and, through body language and silence, infuses his character with depth often lacking in the screenplay. Juhi Chawla as the boys' mother only has a few scenes but she almost warrants a movie of her own, as she fills every moment with thoughtfulness and clear love for her children. At almost two hours long, the film could have done with some trimming, especially scenes involving overlong pranks that aren't as funny or interesting as they think. The film is pleasant enough to make for a good, if not particularly memorable, Friday night plan.
