What's the Story?

In HAVE A NICE DAY! Enrique (Alvaro Guerrero) is an ex-radio host who had reached semi-fame spinning rock 'n' roll music. He longs for those days, but now only wishes to eventually make it back to Mexico City to rekindle an old flame. But in order to do so, he needs money, so he gets a job as a bagger at a grocery store, concocts a scheme to earn extra cash while there, and ropes in Picho (Eduardo Minett), a nice young man and co-worker, to help.

There is some charm to this simple comedy-drama. There isn't much overt or ridiculous comedy in Have a Nice Day! But there is some light humor, situationally. Most of the charm comes from the characters. Even if they are drawn a bit narrowly, the acting is solid. The world around them is convincing in its locality, and the sense of smallness makes sure that once the bigger world is glimpsed, it satisfyingly amazes and entrances Enrique, Picho, and Amanda.

The film does, however, spend a lot of time figuring out how to get to the prompt that will propel them out of their small lives, but once they do, it's more than welcome, if brief. The lessons about not wasting life away until it's too late reverberate well by the end.
