Parents' Guide to House on Haunted Hill (1999)

Parents need to know that House on Haunted Hill is a supernatural horror remake of the 1959 movie of the same name. It has lots of classic gory horror-movie tropes, including jump scares as well as disturbing, dark, and jittery images with eerie noises and sound effects. Bloody and gory images include blood pouring from mouths and wounds and pooling, a stabbing in the throat with a fistful of pencils, someone jumping into a vat of blood, a severed head and headless body with blood and gore, a hanging display of bloody dissected organs, and more. Prisoners riot and kill in different ways, and in the aftermath we see footage of dead bodies with blood and gore, some bodies burned. There are gunshots with blood splattering from wounds in the torso, a murder by stabbing the torso repeatedly with a scalpel, and disturbing supernatural creatures and sculptures of grotesque supernatural or alien beings. A character kisses another who died shortly before the kiss, and hand movement suggests he fondles her genitalia. There's some brief, nonsexual female nudity, once from behind and once showing bare breasts, as well as some sexual innuendo and mild flirting. Strong language includes "f--k," "s--t," and variations of both, as well as "goddamn" and "Jesus Christ." A character smokes a cigar for a lot of the first part, and a minor character smokes. Two characters drink heavily to cope with their situation, including swigging from liquor bottles. There's some dizzying first-person footage of a scary roller-coaster ride.
