What's the Story?

INTO THE WONDERWOODS is a magical animated adventure about a curious 10-year-old boy named Angelo (voiced by Kristen McGuire). When his family accidentally leaves him behind on a road trip, Angelo sets off through a strange and mysterious forest to find his way back. Along the way, he meets quirky creatures, faces wild challenges, and discovers just how brave and kind he can be.

This is a visually creative and emotionally rich animated film that mixes fantasy with real-life feelings. The animation is playful and changes style depending on whether we're seeing Angelo's imagination or his real journey, which makes the story feel magical and unique. Kids will enjoy the silly moments, strange creatures, and fast-paced adventure.

At the same time, the film explores deeper topics like fear, grief, and growing up. Some parts may be confusing or intense for younger viewers, especially the scenes of danger and sadness. The story touches on important themes like courage, kindness, and holding onto your dreams—but it sometimes tries to do too much at once. Since the film was originally made in French, the English voices don't always match the mouth movements, which might be a little distracting for some viewers. The story may not land for everyone, but its creative style and heartfelt moments will appeal to many families.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how Angelo's imagination helps him deal with real-life problems. Can you think of a time your imagination helped you?

  • What do you think the squirrel's story says about being yourself? Why was it important that he tried—even if he didn't totally succeed?

  • What did you notice about the way the movie showed real life vs. imagination? How did the animation change, and what did that tell you?

  • Angelo meets a lot of unusual characters in the forest. Which one stood out to you, and why?

  • Why do you think Angelo kept going, even when things got scary? What does that say about his character?
