This Indian murder-mystery, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is an interesting adaptation of the Japanese novel, The Devotion of Suspect X. Jaane Jaan does well in its efforts of sustaining thrill and suspense throughout. The final twist is well crafted and the performances delivered by the cast make the movie intense and chilling. However, despite positioning Kapoor Khan's Maya as the movie's central character, she remains utterly passive throughout. Maya does as she is told and, much like the viewer, the story's mystery simply unravels before her eyes. A certain degree of nuance and agency in an otherwise well crafted character could've made the film more layered and complex. But despite these shortcomings, this is an entertaining tale that will keep viewers engaged.
