Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, this Indian Tamil-language action comedy is full of violence and gore. Jailer hovers around themes of crime, revenge, and betrayal, with central character Muthuvel full of machoism as he sets off on a mission to exact punishment on his son's abductors. It's a familiar path told endless times. Even the much-loved Rajinikanth fails to bring any charisma to an otherwise bland movie. Prolonged action sequences, endless bloodbaths, and gruesome torture scenes barely spare time for anything interesting to take place, despite the near three-hour duration. While the few female characters remain on the sidelines and have absolutely no role in the development of what exists as a plot.
