Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In 2023–24, the Colombian-born musician Karol G broke all records for a Latina artist with her global stadium tour Mañana Será Bonito, and KAROL G: TOMORROW WAS BEAUTIFUL captures the behind-the-scenes view of that tour. The documentary shows rehearsals, decisions, backstage scenes, and fans. It also goes deeper, interviewing the artist about her childhood and some difficult phases in her life, incorporating home video from when she was a child growing up in Medellín.
Is It Any Good?
This documentary will obviously please fans of the Colombian artist, who turned out in massive numbers for the tour captured here, but it also refreshingly gets to the heart of the musician herself. In Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful, the subject addresses difficult experiences from her past (some visualized through moody animations). She is overtly emotional, both during the interviews and in other captured behind-scenes footage.
It's refreshing to watch a musical documentary with so much raw emotion included. Her message of female empowerment feels like much more than lip service when we get to hear her own travails and see her working with young Colombian girls who are benefiting from a project she funds with NASA. For wannabe stars, this documentary shows the lifetime of hard work that has gone into one idol's career. A late-film montage of her concert tour is edited together seamlessly. All in all, this is a well-paced and engaging documentary.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how the musician and her family and professional collaborators demonstrate teamwork in Karol G: Tomorrow Was Beautiful.
Karol G talks about female empowerment in this film. In what ways does she embody that message through her work and music?
The musician also mentions the public and personal pressure she faces to look a certain way. Does that happen only to public figures? Have you ever experienced that kind of pressure in your life? If so, how did you handle it?
This film uses a mix of materials and even styles to pull together a lot of information and footage into a documentary that's under two hours. What did you like about the way the film was put together? What did you miss, if anything?
