K.G.F: Chapter 1
What's the Story?
Set in the latter half of the 20th century, K.G.F: CHAPTER 1 follows Rocky (Yash), an invincible gangster and mercenary, who desires power and money after his mother's gruesome demise. Rocky heads on a dangerous mission to assassinate Garuda (Ramachandra Raju), the oppressive ruler of a vast gold mine known as Kolar Gold Fields. Will he be able to succeed in his quest while also safeguarding the enslaved people who are forced to work in the mine?
Is It Any Good?
This action drama directed by Prashanth Neel attempts to tell an epic and mythological tale on a grand scale. Unfortunately K.G.F: Chapter 1 is infested with too many blood baths caused by hyper-masculine ego, greed, and an incessant obsession with oppressive power, to achieve its goals. In the film's gory patriarchal world, heroism can singularly be equated to machoism. Women are important only as love interests or mothers, that is, only in their connection with the central male lead. The violence and gore is extreme, repetitive, monotonous, and often, difficult to watch. While entertaining for those who love the renowned and celebrated actor, Yash, this intense and aggressive catalog of toxic masculinity lacks any genuine storytelling at its core.
