A Lot or a Little?
What you will—and won't—find in this movie.
Viewers will see how different breeds of kittens play and interact, learn about the differences between domesticated cats and wild cats, and learn about animals who are opposites in size and behavior.
Kitten Party offers positive messages about the intrinsic value of play for play's sake.
Positive Role Models
Kittens are portrayed as fun-loving, playful, curious, and cute.
Products & Purchases
May encourage the desire to acquire multiple kittens.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Kitten Party is exactly as advertised: Some 40 minutes of dozens of kitten breeds darting to and fro, playing, bouncing, pouncing, and climbing in a variety of settings, sometimes with laser pointers. There's a voice-over narration, background music, and an informational segment about the history of cats, and nothing to prevent all ages from enjoying this kitten-filled romp. Is It Any Good?
This may be the plot equivalent of background music, but that's hardly a criticism; it's fun and silly and playful for playfulness' sake. The fact that Kitten Party is shot decently, features some music, and has some voice-over is just icing on this kitten cake. There is no real story line, only segments of endless footage of adorable kittens broken up with themes such as "Hide and Seek" or "Opposite Song" (about differences among animals) and a segment exploring the history of cats. Parents have nothing to sweat here aside from maybe fielding requests to acquire kittens of your very own, and though it may not completely engage viewers, it could work well alongside other indoor activities on a rainy day.
Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.
