Lainey Wilson: Keeping Country Cool
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
LAINEY WILSON: KEEPING COUNTRY COOL follows the country singer on tour and details her rise to fame. Though she's come to mass public attention in just the last few years, she's been singing, writing music, and seeking opportunities to perform since she was a little girl. That work and struggle is supported by her family, and the film gathers interviews and footage from her parents and grandma as well as home videos from Lainey's childhood and early performances. The star opens up about more difficult moments in her personal life, and she shares some intimate details about planning for a family and some of mental health challenges.
Is It Any Good?
This is a warm portrayal of a rising country star who opens up about mental health struggles and the challenges of making it in the music world. In Lainey Wilson: Keeping Country Cool, Lainey and her best friend slash manager Mandelyn Monchick explain the costs of touring and detail why even an up-and-coming artist can find themselves living hand-to-mouth. It's a helpful reminder that fame doesn't happen overnight and requires significant investment of time and energy—including, in Lainey's case, from family and friends. Lainey also details the cycles of anxiety, depression, and panic that could overcome her at times. Meanwhile, her boyfriend reveals he's going to propose, a plan that gives the film a thread of excitement-building.
