A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this movie.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Lost Bullet 2 is a 2022 French action movie in which a rogue cop seeks revenge on the man who killed his brother. It's a stand-alone sequel to 2020's Lost Bullet. Expect lots of action movie violence, including fighting with many different weapons and implements, punches, kicks. A man is shot and killed by a rifle at close range. Hand-to-hand fighting results in broken and snapped bones. There's a close-up of a man's cut-up and bloodied face. Dead bodies. Home invasion. There are also lots of vehicle chases, including scenes in which cars flip and explode. Strong language throughout, including "f--k." Cigarette smoking. In French, with English subtitles.
What's the Story?
In LOST BULLET 2, Lino (Alban Lenoir) is a cop on leave after an undercover operation led to the murder of his brother. Instead of recuperating, Lino is living in his car and making sure his brother's widow, Stella, is safe from the criminals who killed her husband. After stopping a home invasion at Stella's, Lino soon makes a shocking discovery -- the man who killed his brother, Marco (Sebastiane Lellane), is under police protection by his bosses as a criminal informant. Lino finds this unacceptable and puts his career on the line by kidnapping Marco with plans to get him across the border to Spain to get the justice he deserves from the authorities there. Now, his former partner Julia (Stefí Celma) is in pursuit of Lino, and it's a desperate chase to the border.
Is It Any Good?
This is a decent French action movie -- excessive at times, but enjoyable just the same. Lost Bullet 2 is a sequel that can more or less be enjoyed by itself, as it stands on its own as an action movie centered on the eternal action movie verities of Justice and Revenge. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it sure finds new ways to present car chases -- including scenes of a vehicle with electrified forklift tines that has the ability to send cars flipping overhead.
It strikes a good balance between trying to present new twists to the familiar (the vehicle chases, for instance), while also adhering to familiar conventions of action movies (the stock characters). The acting is good enough, and like most action movies, doesn't require a lot of range beyond looking like one who is in the middle of a crazy fight or an intense chase in a Renault. Overall, it's fun enough for an action movie night.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about action movies like Lost Bullet 2. How is this similar to and different from other action movies you've seen?
Does the movie glamorize reckless driving? Would scenes of intricate and very fast car chases have a negative impact on impressionable viewers, or do you think the vast majority of viewers know that what's happening isn't realistic?
How does the violence compare to that in other action movies? How much is too much?
