What's the Story?
LOVE IN SLOW MOTION follows Haya (Nour Al Ghandour) and Jawad (Ali Kakooli), whose strong friendship is tested when Jawad starts dating a famous actress that he's closely working with. Can their relationship survive?
Is It Any Good?
This predictable film offers nothing new to the romcom genre except for some bold cultural fashion and interesting pet choices. With its "adults in a Disney Channel movie" vibe, this Arabic romantic comedy is family-friendly and gentle enough for younger audiences, but sadly kids will probably be more entertained by the pet chimpanzee than the friends-to-lovers storyline. Adults will be bored by simple one-note characters and annoying video diary scenes that break the fourth wall. Overall, this jealous-bestie-to-love-interest tale feels tiresome and overdone.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what the filmmakers wanted the audience to learn about love and friendship. Are friendships and romance this dramatic in real life? What does the movie suggest about timing in relationships?
Does jealousy always mean that you love someone? Why or why not? What are some healthier ways to express your feelings?
Why do you think that Haya didn't recognize her own feelings until Jawad was in a relationship? How did Haya and Jawad grow by the end of the film?
