What's the Story?

When her flight is delayed due to bad weather during the holiday season, Layla (Christina Milian) meets the handsome James (Kofi Siriboe) at an airport lounge as MEET ME NEXT CHRISTMAS begins. They have an instant spark, but Layla is on her way to see her longtime boyfriend. James suggests that if they are both single the next Christmas, they meet at a Pentatonix concert, her favorite musical group. Layla does find herself single the next year, but the concert is sold out, so she hires a concierge service to help her find last-minute tickets. What ensues is a wild night with sweet concierge Teddy (Devale Ellis) doing whatever it takes to find those tickets. Meanwhile, the members of Pentatonix are following the couple's progress on social media, and some members are rooting for Layla to choose Teddy rather than James when the night's over.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

Kids say ( 3 ):

Despite an awkward setup, when this quirky Christmas romance settles into the main act of its two lead characters' getting to know each other, it wins in tone and sweetness. Chalk that up to the charm of singer-turned-actress Milian and Ellis, the lovebirds of Meet Me Next Christmas. It takes a little time for them (and the film) to warm up, and even then there are some odd choices in casting and pacing. But the Pentatonix subplot and a cappella cameos, which hilariously irk the group's manager, are fun, as is a drag queen-heavy lip sync competition. The growing chemistry between Layla and Teddy is believable, making for a happy holiday ending.
